What is askUZH?
askUZH is the University of Zurich’s platform for AI-powered support. It brings together existing and future AI applications under one roof, building on the experience gained through AI Buddy. While the current focus remains on supporting students, the platform is designed to gradually expand to additional use cases across the university.
What is AI Buddy?
AI Buddy is the virtual assistant optimised for UZH. It has been developed to support students with course organisation and understanding study regulations.
What is the difference between AI Buddy and askUZH?
AI Buddy was the first AI assistant developed as part of the project, focusing on supporting UZH students with study-related questions and university information. Building on this foundation, the project is evolving into askUZH, the University of Zurich’s platform for AI-powered support. Over time, the functions of AI Buddy and additional AI applications will be brought together under the askUZH platform, making askUZH the central entry point for AI-powered support at UZH.
What is the AI Teaching Assistant?
The AI Teaching Assistant is a planned AI application within askUZH. It will be integrated directly into OLAT and can access course-specific teaching materials. This enables it to answer questions about a particular course, make course content more accessible, and support students in their independent learning.
The AI Teaching Assistant is currently under development and will be introduced gradually as part of askUZH. Lecturers interested in piloting the AI Teaching Assistant in their courses are warmly invited to get in touch. If you would like to participate in the pilot project, we would be happy to hear from you.
How can I become a beta tester?
Contact us by email and we'll grant you access! Students of the WWF can already log in via OpenID (UZH login data).
How can I give feedback on AI Buddy or askUZH?

When was AI Buddy launched?
AI Buddy 1.0 was released in September 2025, initially focusing on the Faculty of Business, Economics and Informatics (WWF). The first features help you choose and organise your courses more easily.
The release of an AI Buddy version for all UZH students is planned for the start of the autumn semester 2026.
When will AI Buddy be available for other faculties?
We are currently working on instances for the TRF and VSF, which are expected to be available to students in August.
At the start of the autumn semester 2026, there will also be an instance for all UZH students and staff.
